Your Thoughts on the GOP Power Grab

In our e-mail last week about the attacks the GOP is putting out against Senator Kennedy and other Democratic leaders, we asked you to speak your minds on the “nuclear option.” I’ve posted some of the comments we received below:

“We need judges who will preserve the rights of American citizens and make decisions based on laws, not on the political agenda of the president or any other elected official. We do not want judges who can be manipulated by the current GOP leadership.

Nor do we want to be manipulated. Stop making ads that attack those who oppose GOP nominees and start telling us about the qualifications of those nominees. Or, are you trying to hide the fact that they are not qualified?”

One of the strengths of our government is in its design—checks and balances. We all learned about it in civics class, or should have. The founders of our government knew that men would over reach their power if given the chance. They ingeniously designed a government to prevent that from happening … Long live the minority voice in the senate.
And cheers to the foresight of our forefathers, so let’s protect their design.

“I am an evangelical Christian who is sickened by the gross abuse of power by the Republicans in the Senate, many of whom are fueled by supposedly Christian groups. As a Christian I am constantly reminded of the fact that Jesus’ power was seen in the way he eschewed gathering power to himself, and chose instead to display his power towards service to the poor. I only hope and pray that those claiming to speak for God would follow what God says and does and be mindful of the weak and powerless.”

“Our Founding Fathers set the standards for our country and fought for our rights and our freedom. We have come along way because of their set doctrines and beliefs for the better of the American People. These beliefs were the stones upon which this country was built. We can continue to bring this nation into the next generations but only if we continue with the legacy our Founding Fathers left us.”

“What the GOP is doing is going to upset the balance of power for selfish gain. The personal attacks against Senator Kennedy and other democratic leaders is unfounded and juvenile. The Republicans really have stooped low with their antics and need to conduct themselves in an adult manner. Stick to the agenda of the qualifications of the nominees instead of looking for the personal gain of absolute power causing the scales to become unbalanced.
Senator Kennedy and the other Democratic Leaders are pursuing the justice of this situation to stop power abuse much to the dislike of the Republicans.

As a former Massachusetts Native, Senator Kennedy and his fellow Democratic leaders have my support. I want my voice to be heard as one American Patriot.”
